Doodling the Docks
Overview
Interactive art exhibition, walking tour and workshops for summer festival Join the Docks
Interactive exhibition
Solo exhibition at new Royal Albert Dock development, to encourage people to use the recently re-opened dockside path. The space overlooked the dock. All 42 illustrations were of local landmarks visible from the path.
Use of floor
The pictures surrounded two floor vinyls representing the 3 Royal Docks, in their actual locations, and visitors were encouraged to walk the route through the exhibition. Additional information panels told visitors the history of the docks, wildlife, and local activities.
Walking guide
Key to the exhibition was a printed guide, that opened up and showed facts about each local building and sculpture, with a walking map, and numbered references to the pictures in the exhibition.
Workshops
In the corner of the exhibition space was a workshop area, encouraging visitors to draw and collage their own version of the docks.
Collaborative process
Meetings with Royal Albert Docks, as well as Royal Victoria Open Water Swimming Society and local Beckton ParkRun, in run-up to event, and interviews with local groups for the gallery information panels.
