Inspire Ilford
Overview
Commission to help illustrate the activities which could in an ideal world be implemented, for Ilford BID (Business Improvement District).
Collaboration with stakeholders and local people
I undertook a workshop, as well as meeting with the BID team, and green-city consultant. There were three elements to the workshop: Flower Pot making, street Mapping and pledge and wish making.
Flower pot workshop
Demo, seeds, soil, labels, variety of collage materials were provided. All the “pots” were made of sustainable paper. Advice given of how these should be planted
Workshop outcomes
A total of 80 children made and took away pots. Estimated total engagement – 300 - 400 people over 6 hours. Mixture of spinach, mixed salad leaves and basil (chosen as they will grow indoors over the colder months).
Workshop learnings
Huge interest in greening, from the flower workshop itself. There was a general view that greening is attractive, positive and welcoming, and that there could be more greening in Ilford town centre.
Final output
The image to the left was the output, and incorporated visions of the future for Ilford High Street, the activities that local people are currently doing, as well as some of the pledges made in the workshop.
